Our Approach

This non-profit environmental advocacy group forms ocean policy based on peer-reviewed science at the federal and state government levels. For their renovation in place, the design needed to support their mission, reuse as many perimeter offices as possible and open up the center of the space to create a more functional and collaborative working environment. A purposefully designed pantry serves as the heart of the office, which connects the two sides of the workplace setting. This central connector creates a gathering space that varies in privacy, scale, materiality, and function to support various employees' needs. Inspired by the organization's mission and brand, the design celebrates the ocean and emulates calmness through organized forms and a carefully selected materials palette. Abstract waves expressed as custom ceiling panels separate collaborative zones and allow privacy. Biophilic design elements are integrated throughout the office design, offering increased access to daylight, greenery, and natural materials. The result is a revitalized workplace that is open, bright, and energized.
